A healthy body simply means that everything is in balance, or working in harmony. When our body's systems don't maintain a balanced state with each other the result is sickness, chronic illness, and disease. Health will usually arise spontaneously when the conditions for health exist because our body's immune system is constantly attempting to maintain a balanced state. Therefore to regain health once it is lost we need to begin to reverse some, and ideally all, of those processes which may be negatively impacting us, and over which we have some degree of control. So how can you help your body maintain this important balance? We can start with what we've heard a thousand times...diet and exercise. A low-fat, high-fiber diet and daily exercise are the first steps to restoring good health by promoting your immune system to work at its optimum level. No matter the health issue, this should be on every prescription...period. It's a fact that most prescription drugs don't help restore balance to our body's system, and they don't "heal" anything. They only hide the symptoms. To quote from John R. Lee, M.D., " Most over-the-counter and almost all prescribed drug treatments merely mask symptoms and control health problems or in some way alter the way organs or systems such as the circulatory system work. Drugs almost never deal with the reasons why these problems exist, while they frequently create new health problems as side effects of their activities. " We must be responsible for our own health, and that may include changing our habits and lifestyle. It's easy to go to a doctor, get a prescription, and go home and swallow a few pills.
